Cardiovascular Surgery

The department of cardiovascular surgery provides comprehensive surgical care for patients with heart and major blood vessel conditions. The department manages a wide range of cardiovascular disease surgery procedures using evidence-based surgical techniques and modern perioperative care protocols.

The Cardiothoracic Surgery team consists of experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, perfusionists, and trained nursing staff, supported by advanced operating theatres and critical care infrastructure. Surgical services are available 24/7 for elective and emergency cardiac conditions.

Other Services :

  • Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD): Mechanical pumps that support cardiac output in patients awaiting transplant or as long-term therapy
  • Optimization of Medical Therapy: Includes guideline-directed management of HFrEF, HFpEF, and cardiomyopathies
  • Multidisciplinary Care Pathways: Involving cardiology, cardiac surgery, critical care, and transplant teams

Cardiac surgery is a specialized medical field focused on the surgical treatment of diseases affecting the heart and thoracic aorta, including coronary artery disease, valve disorders, congenital defects, and complex aortic conditions. Advances such as cardiopulmonary bypass and minimally invasive techniques have significantly improved surgical outcomes and safety.

Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic

The cardiovascular surgery clinic evaluates patients with suspected or confirmed heart conditions requiring surgical intervention. Clinical assessment includes imaging, cardiac functional testing, and multidisciplinary case discussions to determine the most appropriate surgical or medical approach.

Patients are counselled regarding surgical indications, risks, expected outcomes, and postoperative recovery. Care pathways follow internationally accepted cardiac surgery guidelines to ensure safe and standardized treatment delivery.

Cardiovascular Bypass Surgery and Advanced Cardiac Procedures

The department performs cardiovascular bypass surgery for patients with blocked coronary arteries to restore blood flow to the heart muscle. Surgical revascularization remains a standard treatment for complex coronary artery disease when medical therapy or catheter-based interventions are not sufficient.

In addition to bypass surgery, the department provides surgical management for structural heart disease, aortic disorders and congenital heart diseases. Advanced intraoperative monitoring tools such as transesophageal echocardiography is used to guide surgical decision-making and assess cardiac function during and after procedures.

Our cardiac surgery program performs a wide range of open and minimally invasive surgeries with an emphasis on safety, precision, and long-term outcomes.

Surgical Expertise

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

On-pump, off-pump, and minimally invasive techniques using arterial and venous grafts.

  • Valve Repair & Replacement

Management of stenosis and regurgitation of mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves using mechanical, bioprosthetic, or transcatheter valves.

  • Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

Smaller incisions with reduced pain, quicker recovery, and shorter hospital stays.

  • Aortic Aneurysm Surgery

Open reconstruction for ascending, arch, and descending thoracic aneurysms.

  • Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)

Minimally invasive stent-graft placement for abdominal aortic aneurysms.

  • Complex Aortic Surgery

Including management of dissections, thoracoabdominal aneurysms, and redo operations.

  • Cardiac Endarterectomy

Helps remove plaque buildup in the common carotid and internal carotid arteries and improve blood flow.

  • Heart Transplant

Our Cardiac and CVTS surgeons are trained in managing advanced heart failure and performing complex heart transplants for suitable patients across all age groups.

Peripheral & Structural Heart Care

We diagnose and treat non-coronary vascular conditions and congenital heart defects using minimally invasive and surgical methods.

Advanced Heart Failure & VAD Program

Our Advanced Heart Failure Program offers complete management pathways for patients with end-stage cardiac dysfunction.

Services Include:

  • Peripheral Angioplasty

For peripheral artery disease in the legs, improving circulation and relieving ischemic symptoms.

  • ASD / PFO Closure

Catheter-based closure of atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovale to prevent embolic events.

  • Coarctation of Aorta

Balloon angioplasty, stent placement, or surgical repair of narrowed segments of the aorta.

  • Other Structural Interventions

Includes treatment of congenital anomalies and valvular abnormalities.
