Professional Bio

He received training and experience in the fields of gastro-surgery and liver transplantation at several institutes of national significance before accepting a position as a consultant in HPB and liver transplant surgery at Zydus Hospital.

He had a distinguished academic career. After earning his MBBS at PSMC, Karamsad, he won the top spot in the prestigious postgraduate institute of medical education and research Centre (PGIMER) admission exam for all of India in Chandigarh. He finished his general surgery residency and became a senior registrar in the surgical gastrointestinal division. He gained experience in complex hepatobiliary surgery during his five years of training at PGIMER, including major liver resections, liver resections in cirrhosis, gall bladder carcinoma, pancreatic surgery, hilar cholangiocarcinoma, liver surgery, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver transplantation.

At the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi, he completed his super specialization in hepatobiliary and liver transplantation (M. Ch). Over the course of his training at ILBS, he has performed more than 500 different major hepatobiliary surgeries, 450+ living donor liver transplants, and 150+ deceased donor liver transplants. During his time at ILBS, he performed three research projects, including two clinical studies and one fundamental science project on transplant immunology. He was awarded an honorary M. Ch. in hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgery by revered vice president of India Mr. Venkaiah Naidu. He then spent the following three years, from 2018 to 2021, as a faculty in the gastro-surgery and liver transplant department at the Institute of Kidney Disease and Research Centre - Institute of Transplantation (IKDRC-ITS).

His areas of specializations include cadaver and living donor liver transplant, multiorgan procurement, critical care in liver transplantation, acute liver failure, liver transplantation for high urgency liver failure, liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma, laparoscopic liver surgery, the whipple's procedure, pancreatic cancer, shunt surgery for extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO) and non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis (NCPF), hepatic resection for liver metastasis. At national and international scientific meetings, he has given numerous oral and poster presentations. In the field of liver transplantation, he has publications in significant index journals with high impact factors.
